GUWAHATI, Feb 24 : Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that North East is fast emerging as favourite destination for Start – Ups from across India.
Addressing the North East Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Conclave 2020 here today, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is, on the one hand to develop North East and bring it at par with the more developed States of the country and at the same time, also address the “Act East” policy of the government. He said, to a great extent, the “Act East” policy will be accomplished essentially through North East because of the common priorities, common requirements, common trade preferences and common culture.
Dr Jitendra Singh referred to incredible initiatives of the last over five years under the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which not only put the development activity on fast track, but also bridged the psychological gap existing between the people of North East and the rest of India. He said, it is difficult to ignore that within five years of his first term as Prime Minister, Sh Narendra Modi travelled to North East over 30 to 35 times, which is possibly more than the total number of visits made by his predecessors. Not only this, on Prime Minister’s insistence, fortnightly tours of Union Ministers to the North Eastern States were arranged and a Camp Secretariat of Ministry Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) was made to rotate in every State.
Dr Jitendra Singh lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for some of the facilitatory though revolutionary decisions like accomplishment of Indo-Bangladesh Agreement for exchange of Enclaves, Bodo Agreement and Bru Settlement.
As a result of this, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the revolutionary transformation in North East over the last five years is to be seen to be believed. Insurgency related violence, protracted road blockades and news of corruption are virtually things of the past now.
Appreciating the NITI Aayog for holding this Conclave for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Dr Jitendra Singh said, let us not forget, it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative, which led to the formation of an exclusive NITI Aayog Forum for North East.
Dr Jitendra Singh hoped that the NITI Aayog and its various programmes will be useful in carrying forward several ambitious goals that have been envisaged for the North East.
