Nomad, 150 goats die in snow-storm on Pir Panjal; 4 injured

POONCH, Oct 13: A young nomad boy and at least 150 goats and sheep have been killed, while four members of the family are injured in snow-storm on Pir Panjal near Hill Kaka, in Surankote Sub Division of district Poonch.
Official sources said that due to rain and snow fall on Pir Panjal during the intervening night of October 11 and 12, five members of a nomad (Bakerwal) family including a woman were trapped in snow storm at Choti Marg near Hill Kala. Some people at Marha hamlet in remote Bafliaz area came to know about the matter and they informed Surankote police last night.
Early morning today, a police party along with some villagers from Bafliaz moved to the area on foot and managed to reach there. They noticed many goats/sheep killed due to snow storm there. The dead body of the 15-year old Usman Ali, son of Mohd Aslam, resident of Androte in Rajouri was brought to Madimarh, situated on Mughal Road and the four injured persons whose feet had been badly damaged due to snow were also rescued and then shifted to Srinagar Hospital. They were identified as Mohd Aslam, son of Abdul Majid, his wife Bano Bi; Nazir son of Abdul Majid and Mohd Yousuf, son of Abdul Aziz.
The dead body of the deceased nomad boy, was also sent to Badgam area where other family members were still putting up and planning to migrate to Rajouri. These five had gone with their nearly 650 sheep and goats on foot as advance party.
SDPO Surankote Mohd Reyaz said that dead body has been shifted to Badgam while injured have been removed to Srinagar hospital. Their feet were badly damaged. He said as per reports nearly 150 sheep/ goats are said to have perished in the snow storm. But their number could be higher as many have been buried under snow on Pir Panjal.
