Srinagar, June 28: A no-confidence motion has been moved against Chairman and Vice Chairman of District Development Council (DDC) Srinagar by nine DDC members today.
District Magistrate Srinagar, Mohammad Ajaz Asad, has sought time from them to decide further action under provisions of Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act.
An official said that amid no clear cut provisions to remove Chairman and Vice Chairman, Asad has sought time to clarify things technically.
Last year, Apni Party candidate Malik Aftab and Bilal Ahmad Bhat were elected as DDC Chairman and Vice Chairman for Srinagar. Apni Party has 3 DDC members; National Conference, People’s Democratic Party, Bhartiya Janta Party and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement have one each while seven are Independents. Majority of the Independents were workers of NC but fought independently after they were denied party tickets.
Malik and Bhat had secured 9 votes each as majority of the members voted for them.
