New batch of 425 pilgrims leave base camps for Holy Cave

SRINAGAR :  A new batch of 425 pilgrims, including sadhus and women, left for Holy Amarnath cave shrine from Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps early this morning despite intermittent rain and cloudy weather.
The pilgrimage was progressing smoothly from both tracks though the number of pilgrims have decreased for the past one week.
About 3.50 lakh pilgrims had paid obeisance at the holy cave since the commencement of the 55-day-long yatra from June 28 which will culminate on August 21 after the Chhari Mubarak, Holy Silver Mace of Lord Shiva will be taken  there.
A yatra official said about 200 pilgrims, including sadhus and women, left Baltal early this morning for the  cave.
Similarly about 225 yatris also left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for the shrine. However, the yatris sadhus, will take a night halt at Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional track.
He said yatris, who halted for the night at other halting stations on the track have also started their onward journey early this morning for the shrine. (AGENCIES)
