JAMMU, Nov 8: Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today accused the Central Government of having “utterly failed” on the national security front and said instead of taking strategic steps to protect India’s interests, it was relying upon rhetoric.
He was reacting over martyrdom of two Army officers and one BSF jawan in Machil Sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara while interacting with aggrieved people of Rohi Morh area of Gandhi Nagar constituency. Taking a swipe at the Narendra Modi Government over attacks in Kashmir and along the borders, he said the situation at the country’s borders is “alarming” as scores of soldiers and civilians have lost their lives.
Stating that the national security is in danger and the internal security too is under threat, Congress leader accused the Modi Government of boasting about their six years in office against such backdrop. He alleged that the Government has abdicated its duties in protecting the country’s borders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instead resorted to self-propagation of his strategies.”Instead of taking strategic and diplomatic steps for protecting India’s national interests, they are relying upon rhetoric. This is typical of all symbolism and no delivery style of the Government,” he said.
Bhalla further alleged that the Government has abdicated its solemn duty to protect India’s borders both from external and internal threats and said the Prime Minister has “utterly failed” to stop the Pakistan-sponsored terror that is taking the lives of Indian jawans and civilians on a daily basis. Govt is so busy in self-propagation of his strategies that he is blind to the threats on our Eastern, Western and Northern borders which have become extremely volatile because the Chinese Government has aggressively infringed upon India’s Territory and caused serious concern by fortifying its military position on the Doka La plateau,” he said.
“Yet the BJP Government remains a mute spectator and is relying upon rhetoric,” he said.
He expressed grave concern over the “deteriorating” security scenario in Kashmir. He said the BJP Government had failed to wane away youth from isolation due to various ideological U-turns and contradictions. He also said that the shadow of fear that has been cast over the Panchayat election process is alarming and unfortunate and should be taken seriously.
