SRINAGAR, Feb 6: National Conference leader and Rajya Sabha member Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri has said that the Government should show generosity to Kashmir by granting more administrative units on the pattern of Jammu and Ladakh to not aggravate the sense of discrimination in the Valley.
“If in Ladakh and Jammu adjacent villages, not far off from each other, have been granted new administrative units why can’t the Government show similar generosity to Kashmiris also. The creation of new administrative units should not aggravate the sense of discrimination in Kashmir,” said Ratanpuri in a statement.
Expressing deep concern on the continued agitation by the residents of villages and towns feeling left out of the recent exercise of administrative re-organisation, he said areas like Wasura, Khrew, Lurgam, Awantipora and Shadimarg also in Pulwama district should be granted administration units.
He said that it may take more than many years to comprehend the benefits of this exercise, but the damage is already more than evident.
The Member of Parliament termed this a very serious issue that can’t be brushed aside or wished away.
He urged upon the Government to hear these people and redress their genuine grievances, adding, that people of any area should not be forced to be a part of a new administrative unit if it is farther than the existing head quarter and inconvenient for them.
