NC leaders not to press petition

SRINAGAR, Aug 24: High Court was today informed by the Counsel of 16 National Conference leaders, who had alleged house detentions and confinement that they have recently been allowed to move and are not pressing these petitions.
These petitions were listed today and the counsel representing these leaders informed the court that all the petitioners have recently been allowed to move outside as such do not press these petitions.
In the last hearing Government had informed the court that these leaders are free to move anywhere and the allegations of house detention and confinement are baseless.
Government counsel submitted before the court that none of the petitioners were detained and they were otherwise free to move anywhere with certain precautions keeping in view their security and had sought dismissal of all these petitions by submitting that none of the legal and fundamental rights were infringed.
The petitioners including Shamima Firdous, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Abdul Majid Bhat (Larmi), Mohammad Shafi Shah, Nasir Aslam Wani, Chowdhry Mohammad Ramzan, Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri), Saif-ud-Din Bhat (Shutru), Mohammad Irfan Shah, Abdul Rahim Rather, Aga Syed Roohullah, Mubarak Gul and Basharat Bukhari had approached the court seeking direction to police authorities including Director General of Police, Inspector General of Police Kashmir, concerned SSPs and SHOs for producing them before the court and set them free from their long detention and confinement.
