NC, Cong suspend meetings over COVID-19

Farooq asks workers to avoid visiting his house

SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, Mar 19: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president, Dr Farooq Abdullah has requested all well wishers, workers, party functionaries to refrain from visiting his residence, which has been seeing huge public gatherings following his release while the NC and Congress have suspended their party meetings and functions in view of the threat posed by Cononavirus.
In a press statement here today, Farooq said the measure is for time being in order to help avoid transmission of fatal virus. NC leader said that he in all earnest, does not want people to suffer following a positive case of COVID-19 in Srinagar.
He has prayed for the wellbeing of people and urged them to follow the concerned health and sanitation advisories of the Government.
Meanwhile, the party on Thursday suspended all party gatherings/meetings in a bid to help stop the transmission of COVID-19 virus in J&K following surfacing of a positive case in Srinagar.
In a statement, party spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar has asked people to follow the concerned health advisories of administration in this regard. He has requested its functionaries, workers not to hold any outreach activity for the time being.
Meanwhile, Congress has also suspended all its outdoor political activities for specific period while appealing the people to cooperate the health authorities and administration in dealing with situation of corona virus and asked the people to strictly follow the advisories of administration to prevent the spread of the disease.
In a message to party cadre, JKPCC chief GA Mir has suspended all out door political activities of party for the time being and appealed to people to be fully aware and cooperate the authorities while  following the advisories and instructions to prevent the spread of the disease. He also appealed to the people and party cadre at all levels, to make aware and educate the people in the manner possible following all the instructions and advisories of administration.
PCC president has asked the Government machinery to be fully geared up at all levels to meet the challenges and leave no stone unturned to prevent the spread of the disease and closely monitor the implementation of the instructions and advisories at all levels.
He also said that there should be compliance of instructions over  the assembly of people and gatherings and there should be no selective approach or laxcity in adhering to such guide lines and instructions by any political or social organizations, individual identity or other such institutions  as there are reports of some laxcity in implementing uniformly the advisories of the Government. He also urged the Government  to ensure availability of all essential commodities to the people at grass root level  and regularly monitor any attempts of hoarding and  profiting of the event.
