CEC inaugurates Meru Bridge constructed by BRO

LEH, Mar 19: The Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh, Gyal P Wangyal, in presence of Chief Engineer Project HIMANK, Brig Arvinder Singh; CDR 753 BRTF, Col Abishek Khanna; OC 111 RCC, Maj A S Bhandari and Councillor Igoo Tsering Paldan, inaugurated 60 feet Meru Bridge over Gya-Meru Nallah at Meru village, constructed by BRO 111 RCC as a welfare gesture to the village.
The BRO 111 RCC undertook the task of building the Meru Bridge on Gya-Meru stream from 17th February 2020 following requests received from the LAHDC, Leh to help the villagers and today the bridge was opened to the farmers who have their houses and chunk of agriculture land across the stream.
Addressing the function, CEC Wangyal said this vital bridge by BRO will help farmers a lot to cultivate their land across the river properly. He said this bridge was one of the old and pending demands of the village since 2010 and due to shortage of funds Hill Council Leh could not construct the same till date. Wangyal, on behalf of LAHDC Leh and Meru village, thanked Chief Engineer Project HIMANK Brig Arvinder Singh, BRO officers, soldiers and labours for constructing this bridge in record time and highly appreciated their good will gesture towards Meru village.
Responding to the demands of village including installation of mobile tower, upgradation of medical sub centre, construction of community hall etc, CEC said that now all pending and genuine demands will be addressed as there will be no shortage of funds in UT Ladakh.
Chief Engineer Project HIMANK Brig Arvinder Singh said that the main objective of HIMANK in Ladakh is to connect the far-off villages with rest of the world and assured that HIMANK will be always on front in welfare of the locals.
The Councillor Igoo, Tsering Paldan and Nambardar Meru requested BRO to construct two more culverts in the Gya-Meru valley to ease the life of villagers.
On the occasion, the doctor of BRO also educated people about the dos and don’ts related to COVID-19 and advised them to follow basic protective measures so that they can keep themselves safe from the Novel Coronavirus. The villagers also presented cultural programme on the occasion.
