Shopkeepers and people blocking Jammu-Pathankote National Highway to lodge protest against Bar Association at Jammu on Wednesday.

JAMMU, May 7: Nai Basti Bazaar Association (NBBA) flayed Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) for threatening and forcing the shopkeepers to close their shops during Jammu bandh call given on May 5.
Amid slogans, hundreds of shopkeepers and people under the banner of NBBA assembled on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Nai Basti and blocked the vehicular movement, which resulted into long traffic snarls.
The protesters expressed their anger against the unlawful behaviour of JKHCBA during Jammu bandh call.
Addressing the gathering, Madan Lal Dogra, president, NBBA said that on May 5, JKHCBA called for Jammu bandh and the Association also extended full support to them.
“In the evening when some of the shopkeepers opened their shops, the members of Bar Association in a huge number reached Nai Basti bazaar and harassed shopkeepers”, he alleged.
“They (lawyers) even abused in very illiterate manner and even threatened the shopkeepers not to open their shops”, he said, adding that since NBBA has extended support to Bar Association the latter didn’t care about anything and behaved badly with the shopkeepers and general public.
“We have nothing to do with the internal matter of Bar and Police. But now members of the association were able to understand that Bar is using general public for their vested interest and they have nothing to do with the sentiments of public”, Dogra said.
“If JKHCBA is sincere about the needs and emotions of general public then they should have not done malpractice like this. Everyone knows that presently the traders are reeling under the burden of loans of banks and if every next day different organizations called for bandh and didn’t allow shopkeepers to open their establishments then who will take care of their business and their families”, he added.
Dogra demanded action against the members of the JKHCBA for threatening and harassing the shopkeepers during the Jammu bandh call.
