Natrang celebrates ‘World Cartoonist Day’ at Kala Kendra

JAMMU, May 5: World Cartoonist Day was celebrated today by Natrang at Kala Kendra (Jammu), featuring the son of the soil and internationally acclaimed cartoonist Chandra Shekhar.
The honours were done by Triambak Sharma, Editor Cartoon Watch by inaugurating this exclusive exhibition. Triambak Sharma came all the way from Raipur (Chhattisgarh) to attend this world event in Jammu. He was joined by Sunil Mehta (ex-IG BSF).
Earlier, the host of the event, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur informed that May 5th is National Cartoonist Day, a world-wide celebration of cartoonists and their work. He said Chandrashekhar who is credited for bringing Jammu in the international lime-light through his creative endeavours made it possible that Jammu gets this global recognition by holding this event in the city.
A record number of 64 caricatures by Chandra Shekhar featured in this mind blowing exhibition featuring the prominent personalities of Jammu including Dr Karan Singh, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, eminent film-maker and writer Ved Rahi, well known painter Suman Gupta, prominent singer Jitendra Singh, Dr JP Singh, former Jammu Doordarshan director Dr Naseeb Singh Manhas, Pradeep Dutta of Times Now, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur, Rakesh Anand, Abhimanyu Sharma, Israar Khan, Sandhya Gupta, Tarun Uppal, Pawan Sharma, Suriender Sharma, Neeraj Rohmetra, Harbans Nagokey, Mohan Singh and many others.
Shekhar, who has achieved his position in the world of cartoons for the last 30 years, has the credit of having organized and participated in many national and international exhibitions in India and abroad. This is the first time that different prominent personalities of Jammu have been depicted in cartoons through their caricatures.
Prominent figures who attended this world event included Javaid Rahi, secretary Kala Kendra Society, Ajay Khajuria, Suman Gupta, Satish Chalotra, Naseeb Singh, Shamsher Singh Charak, Tarun Uppal, Rajeev Luthra, Rakesh Sharma, Rajeshwar Singh Raju, Kripal Singh, Suresh Sharma, Manoj Chopra and Sandhya Gupta.
