JAMMU, June 18: Continuing its drive to save the youth from falling into the trap of drug abuse, Gandhi Nagar police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ nabbed a narcotics trafficker along with cannabis and intoxicant tablets and capsules.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station laid a naka at Green Belt and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking, as he was moving under suspicious circumstances.
On seeing cops approaching, the pedestrian escaped into a by lane. Stinking something fishy, the cops intercepted the pedestrian after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 250 grams cannabis, 201 intoxicant tablets and 55 capsules and arrested the accused.
The arrested person has been identified as Suraj Kumar, son of Puran Kumar, a resident of Valmiki Colony Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
The accused was a notorious drug peddler and with his arrest, police saved the youth from falling into the trap of drug abuse.
A case under FIR Number 136/18 under Section 8/20/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment and other persons indulged in this illegal trade practice.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by SI Kali Charan and ASI Shesh Pal made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
