Nagrota-Sainik School road in shambles

JAMMU, Apr 29: An important road link from Nagrota (Kandoli) to the only Sainik School in J&K at the bank of river Tawi and to the NRHM Regional office, has been in bad shape for the last several years.
Neither the BRO/GREF, nor the State R&B Department have paid any attention towards this road in last more than three years. This road also severs as a main link to several important villages and hamlets of Nagrota constituency, a battalion headquarters of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), NCC camping ground and of course, the main cremation ground at the bank of river Tawi for the population of entire Nagrota town.
Large potholes have appeared on the entire 2 km road link. The surface has been broken badly and turned into a virtual `Khud’. During rains water logging is often witnessed and mud and slush make life of the shopkeepers and residents horrible. They fall victim to the muddy water as the vehicles pass through the water/ mud filled potholes.
The residents or the area took up the matter with the BJP MLA and even the concerned officials several times but no repair work was taken up. There are no side drains in the area and in the absence of proper drainage system the road gets damaged more. The movement of tractor trolleys loaded with sand and pebbles (Bajra) from Tawi side is also yet another reason for damage.
Chief Engineer R&B, Hamid Sheikh when contacted said that this road was under R&B and the PWD (R&B) Division-II of Jammu, was responsible for its maintenance and upkeep. He admitted that this road was in bad shape and not maintained properly. Mr Sheikh further said that in the absence of proper drainage system much damage has been caused to this road. He said that he has kept some funds for its repair and maintenance this year and he would direct the concerned Executive Engineer to initiate work on this road shortly.
