He said now they are again going to submit their demands to Municipal Commissioner and give 10 days ultimatum to fulfill the same failing which employees would resort to strike again.
Ranjit Singh said that earlier they had suspended their strike on December 10, 2015 on the assurance of Municipal authorities but even after four months no action was taken to fulfill their demands.
Rohit George said that the area of JMC has been extended from 23 to 71 wards (32 Sq Km to 112 Sq Km) since 2005 but the strength of staff has not been extended, which is major setback to employees. Therefore, there is a dire need of re-organization of JMC or equal staff strength of all cadres on the pattern of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Alleging that NGO contract system has totally failed as the contractors do not pay timely salary/wages to NGO workers, he appealed for cancellation of all NGO sanitation contracts and appointment of remaining NGO workers as casual labour.
Stating that the working of municipal wards are suffering a lot due to transfer of Municipal employees from wards to parking slots and also the people do not paying parking fees and instead misbehave with the employees, the union requested to float tenders of parking slots and deploy of Municipal employees in wards instead of parking slots.
The union further demanded issuance of DPC promotion orders of Municipal employees of various cadres and regularization of contractual Drivers of JMC as they have completed nine years of service and deserve regularization.
