KATHUA, Oct 13: A multi-storied house was destroyed in a devastating fire which broke out in village Seru in Bani tehsil today. The village is two kms away from Bani township.
Due to the lack of fire tenders in the area, the villagers could not control the fire. As per reports the fire broke out in the residential house of Bishamber Dass, son of Jodha Ram of Village Bani Morah Seru due short circuit and engulfed the whole house which was of wooden material. As there is no fire tender in the Bani Tehsil , the villagers tried to extinguish it by dosing the flames through water brought in buckets but their efforts also failed due to lack of water supply in the village.
However all the family members who were trapped in the fire were rescued by villagers safely.
All the house hold goods including valuables were reduced to ashes in the devastating fire. After getting the information a police party led by SHO, Bani, Mohan Lal rushed to the spot to assess the losses.
MLA Bani, Jewan Lal and revenue team also reached the spot and assured the compensation to the victims. Bani Police has started investigation into the matter and it is assessing loss of property. The local people demanded setting up of Fire Station in Bani. As the fire incidents are reported in routine and there are wooden houses in the entire belt which get destroyed in such fire incidents.
