JAMMU, Oct 14: Mission Statehood Jammu Kashmir (MSJK) activists here today staged a protest demonstration and burnt the copies of order by J&K government’s Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) to hike 17.29 per cent electricity tariff.
The protest was led by MSJK leader Sunil Dimple who demanded that J&K power projects should be returned back and free electricity and drinking water should be provided to people of J&K.
The protesters also said that such a hike in electricity tariff after privatization and installing of smart meters will not be accepted.
Dimple demanded royalty to J&K for electricity produced here and supplied to other states.
He claimed that poor families will be unable to pay the hiked power tariff which if not deposited in time will incur interest and compound interest which is unjustified.
