JAMMU, July 6: Motor Parts Dealers Association (MPDA), Jammu has expressed resentment over the poor quality of work being done by the contractors in Transport Nagar, Narwal.
In its meeting held today, MPDA Jammu said that the traders of Transport Nagar Narwal were very happy when after 30 years of the establishment of Transport Nagar, LG Manoj Sinha in November 2022 inaugurated a project for its upgradation. However, the MPDA said, what is happening on the ground is not satisfactory as per technical norms of engineering and one can easily assess this by paying a surprise visit.
“As per DPR, the executing agency had to reconstruct all drains of main roads and lands & by lanes, fix tiles on walk ways of pedestrians and blacktop motorable roads with six inches thick bitumen so that they can bear loads of 40 to 80 tons of trucks but the contractors are doing the job which could not survive even one month,” the Association members said.
Stating that tiles of 18 cm fixed in the centre of roads are not durable and can’t bear the load of 40 to 80 tons trucks, the Association members demanded that the roads be blacktopped with 6 inches of bitumen and concrete, and dividers of all main roads be protected with steel grills of three feet height. They further raised question on slow pace of upgradation work of Transport Nagar and stated that if the work goes by this way it will take years for completion of this project.
“At the time of its inauguration, it was said that the project will take six months to one year for completion but till date the contractors have completed only 30 percent of the project while 8 months of time has already passed,” said MPDA members and demanded LG Manoj Sinha to take measures for early remedies and save the Transport Nagar traders from further suffering.
