LEH, July 1: Under the chairmanship of Member Parliament Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, the first meeting of newly nominated members of Airport Advisory Committee of KBR Airport Leh was held today.
During the meeting, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal urged newly nominated members to give suggestive solutions while raising different issues, demands regarding upcoming new airport terminal and improvements in the current facilities and services at Leh Airport. He also reviewed action taken report from concerned agencies about the previous Airport Advisory Committee meeting held under the chairmanship of former MP, Ladakh Thupstan Chewang in the month of June 2018.
It may be recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of new Terminal building of Kushok Bakula Rinpochey (KBR) Airport at Leh in the month of February, 2019, which is coming up at a cost of Rs 480 crores on 11.8 acre of land. The new terminal complex will have 18 checking counters, 2 arrival baggage carrousels, 3 passenger boarding bridges, 4 escalators, 9 lifts, parking capacity for 200 cars and handling ability for A320 and B737 type aircrafts.
MP Numgyal instructed Secretary Airport Advisory Committee Sonam Norboo to ensure timely submission of agenda points to the members convene at least one advisory meeting before tourist season.
Highlighting the importance of Nubra-Thoise Airport for Army, local passengers and for tourists, MP directed AAI Leh to involve SDM Nubra and newly nominated members from Nubra for upcoming survey of Nubra Airport by AAI for its expansion and future plan.
Earlier, Secretary Airport Advisory Committee of KBR Airport Leh, Sonam Norboo tabled agenda points of airlines operating in Leh.
Regarding future plans of KBR Airport Leh, DC Leh, Avny Lavasa directed AAI Leh to give realistic data to the DC office based on which action will be taken.
The members who also shared their valuable suggestion and feedbacks during the meeting, included MLC Leh Chering Dorjey; SSP, Leh, Sargun Shukla; Chief Administrative Officer AF Station Leh, Captain K K Singh; Dy SP AHJ Mohd Aslam Mir; Councillor Diskit Tsering Angchok; Assistant Director Tourism Tsering Angmo; presidents of ALTOA, Hotel Association, Merchant Association and Chamber of Industries Leh and managers from airlines operating in Leh.
