MLC demands amnesty for youth from erstwhile Doda

JAMMU, Nov 26: Member Legislative Council Firdous Tak has sought extension of amnesty scheme to the youth of erstwhile Doda who have been booked under various criminal provisions during the last around a decade.
The Legislator said that the scheme announced for the youth of Kashmir, who have been booked for stone pelting and other minor offences, should be extended to three districts of Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban as hundreds of youth in these far off areas face similar criminal charges, despite the fact that no major law and order problem was reported.
In a letter written to the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti Tak said that these youth, most of whom are in their teens, are facing several problems as the pendency of FIR created hurdles in their career beside creating a physiological pressure. These youth have been booked in numerous FIRs since 2008 for being part of “illegal assembly” or a “protest demonstration”, he said adding that in most of the case no charge-sheet has been filed by the police, nor there is any concrete evidence against them.
“On the direction of your good office the State Home Department has issued Govt order No 167-D-Home of 2017 dated 23-11-2017 where by a Committee constituted to review the cases registered against the persons/youth during the period of 2008-14 has been asked to also review the cases registered during the period of 2016-17 (till date)”, the letter read.
“Hundreds of youth of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban have been booked under various provisions since 2008 till date. In most of the cases registered there is no incident of violence and cases remained pending till date,” the MLC added.
He sought the intervention of the Chief Minister for directing the department to review all the cases registered against such youth.
