MLAs’ concern over GMC condition

JAMMU, Apr 2: Several MLAs today expressed serious concern over situation prevailing in the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu and stressed that Government should take immediate steps to restore order in the hospital.
“Government Medical College and Hospital has virtually become a slaughter house”, remarked Prof Chaman Lal Gupta during Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly while referring to the negligent deaths during the past few days.
“There are bungling in the engagements of Assistant Surgeons in the Government Medical College and the Head of Departments and Units have boycotted the counseling because of this reason”, he said and sought the intervention of Chief Minister to ensure smooth functioning of the hospital and to check negligent deaths.
MLA from Domana, Bharat Bhushan also raised the similar issue and remarked, “the hospital has become a fighting ring due to lack of coordination between the Head of Departments/Units and Principal”, adding “this issue should not be taken lightly by the Government”.
National Conference MLA, Bimla Luthra also expressed concern over the situation prevailing in the GMC and said, “the situation is worsening day-by-day…there is no sanitation in the hospital and poor people are being forced to run from pillar to post to get basic diagnostic facilities”.
Though Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Minister for Medical Education, Taj Mohi-ud-Din were present in the House when the issue was raised, there was no reaction from them.
