UDHAMPUR, July 28: An extensive house to house campaign of checking if any child is suffering from diarrhoea and administration of ORS and zinc tablets in the event of detection of diarrhoea cases was launched by the District Health Society with the help of ASHAs.
MLA, Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia who was the chief guest, formally launched the campaign “Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight” during a function organized at ANMT School Udhampur today.
The fornight long programme is being observed from July 28 to August 8, 2014 in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA said that public awareness is vital for eradication of disease such as diarrhoea. He said that ASHA workers are playing an important role in spreading public awareness. He said that they could help to root out disease like diarrhoea by spreading awareness among the masses. He also urged upon the trainees of ANMT school to generate maximum awareness in their surroundings for the eradication of water borne diseases from the society.
The MLA said that such type of awareness programmes would go a long way in reducing the infant mortality rate and help to create a healthy society.
Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur, Dr. Arun Sharma gave the detail of the programme and informed that the main objective of the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight is to intensify the diarrhoea control activities which will help in preventing deaths due to childhood diarrhoea. The activities which will be carried out during the fortnight include training of ASHA workers, house to house campaign, intensification of awareness generation activities, ORS and Zinc tablets distribution by ASHAs to children below 5 years, identification of diarrhoea cases etc.
Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Dr. Chander Parkash, District Medical Officer, Dr. Som Singh, District Immunization Officer, ASHA workers, ANMT trainees were also present on the occasion.
