MLA alleges exploitation of labour force engaged on NH

UDHAMPUR, Nov 10: Chairman of J&K National Panthers Party and MLA Ramnagar, Harshdev Singh has alleged that labour force engaged by Corporate houses on widening of National Highway and construction of tunnel at Chenani-Nashri were being exploited badly.
In a press statement issued here today, the MLA claimed that exploitation of local labour class was unacceptable and he will render all possible support to their cause. He alleged that poor workers of the area engaged by some big companies on four- lanning of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Chenani, Batote, Nashri Ramban etc were being exploited badly. Many of them have been thrown out. The workers with the connivance of the local administration were being harassed and victimized.
The MLA condemned the repressive and oppressive policies of the Corporate houses for harassing workers and their representatives. He alleged that in sheer violation of labour laws the workers were deprived of much needed facilities and wages. He said several workers have been arrested. NPP leader demanded release of all these workers. He alleged that local labour force has already been deprived of their share in the employment and legitimate wages as per agreement. The people have been denied due compensation against land acquired and allied development activities in the area.
Demanding high level probe into the highhandedness of the corporate houses, Mr Singh sought adequate compensation besides re-engagement of terminated workers and immediate release of all those arrested by police during agitation few days back. He sought immediate intervention of State Government in this regard and demanded that local working class members be provided justice. He also warned the managements of Leighton Welspun and AFCON to provide adequate employment to the local youth as per agreement otherwise the NPP will come out on the roads in support of working class of district Udhampur and Ramban.
