JCC launches two-day strike for release of leaders

Srinagar, Nov 10: Following booking of their six leaders in Central Jail, Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), today announced a two-day strike programme to demand immediate release of their incarcerated leaders.
In a hurriedly arranged meeting today afternoon, the lower-rung leaders of JCC decided to observe a pen-down strike across the State on Monday, which will be followed by staging protests on Tuesday if their leaders were not released immediately.
“The Government has turned hostile toward its own employees, which is quite unfortunate. It shows its frustration and anti-employee approach. Instead of addressing our demands, the Government is unleashing its police terror against us,” a spokesman of JCC said.
The JCC leaders have threatened that they would launch an indefinite strike if their leaders were not released immediately.
Police had on Saturday foiled the employees agitation by detaining hundreds of them, and also had booked some in the Central Jail including Abdul Qayoom Wani, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, Parvez Rafiq, Ghulam Rasool Dar, Aftab Andrabi, Abdul Qayoom Beigh, Riyaz Ahmad Sofi and Abdul Qayoom.
The State employees have been at loggerheads with the Government for the past several years over the non-implementation of the agreement signed between the former and the latter on September 15, 2011.The Government has time and again scuttled the employees protested bu resorting to baton-charges and detention of their leaders from the past three years.
Meanwhile, members of JCC from Jammu strongly condemned the oppressive and suppressive attitude of the State Government and demanded release of all the arrested employees and leaders.
In a meeting of the JCC held here today senior members including Kulwant Singh, Ganesh Khajuria, Amrik Singh, Shahid Hussain and others condemned police action on the peacefully agitating employees in Srinagar. They also criticized the Government for using force on the employees and not resolving their pending issues. Demanding release of all the arrested employees leaders, they also issued appeal to the employees to remain united for their common cause.
They also stressed upon the Government to address pending issues of regularization of daily rated/ casual workers, enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years, removal of pay disparity and provision of budgetary support to PSUs.
