UDHAMPUR, Nov 10: Exhorting people to work for building a harmonious society based on love, compassion, equality and human dignity, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today said that religious intolerance can only lead to confusion and chaos in the society.
“We are witnessing with concern some forces emerging with myopic vision where pluralism has a limited space and scope to grow”, Mr Rana said at a religious congregation held at Guru Ravi Dass Mandir here this evening.
He described such a tendency as detrimental to the growth of harmonious society where people of different faiths can live with honour and dignity.
The Provincial President cautioned against divisive and communal forces and said “unless their menacing advances are not checked, the peace and harmony will remain in peril”. He called for collective efforts to dilute whatever influence peace inimical elements enjoy, saying that society will have to rise in unison to say ‘no’ to their machinations.
Mr Rana said that National Conference has all along been fighting these reactionary forces and will continue to do so in future as well. He said the people’s great movement spearheaded by Sher-e-Kashmir during most testing times is determined to frustrate their evil designs under the stewardship of Omar Abdullah.
The Provincial President paid rich tributes to Guru Ravi Dassji, saying that the great saint all his life worked for just and society based on equality and human dignity. The best way of following the teachings of Guru Maharaj to work for upliftment and wellbeing of all, particularly those who are poor, downtrodden and backward.
He asked the people to imbibe the spirit of love, peace and compassion as preached by great saints and sages, saying their message of harmony holds relevance now than ever before because of greed, hatred and intolerance inflicting the society.
“Those preaching hatred in the name of religion are devils, who do not understand religion and Godliness”, he said while stressing the need for maintaining amity and brotherhood at all costs.
Mr Rana urged the devotees to spread the message of love, peace and compassion. The path shown by the great Gurus will continue to guide the humanity to eschew the tendencies of hatred and intolerance, he maintained.
Shri Shri 108 Swami Gurdeep Giri Ji Maharaj gave sermons on the teachings of Guru Ravi Dass ji to a large congregation.
