MIPSI procedure performed for 1st time in J&K at Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar

JAMMU, Jan 16: In a first in Jammu and Kashmir, Cluneal Nerve Radiofrequency Pain Procedure (MIPSI) procedure was performed on a patient in Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The 55-year-old female patient was suffering from chronic low back pain radiating to right hip with burning sensation. The pain was aggravating on sitting and walking as the patient was suffering from this pain for last three years and had visited to many higher centers outside J&K for the treatment but all in vain.
Finally, the patient on the recommendation of one of her friends visited Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu) to get herself checked up by Dr Rohit Lahori (Incharge, Pain and Palliative Care Centre). A diagnostic procedure was performed and after confirmation, Dr Rohit Lahori performed the MIPSI procedure under local anaesthesia.
Dr Lahori was assisted by Dr Sucheta Hans (Consultant Anaesthesia) and OT team comprising Rakesh Bakshi and Jaswinder Singh. The logistics support for the procedure was provided under the guidance of Medical Superintendent of the Hospital Dr Parveen Yograj.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pain Medicine Department of Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar (Jammu) has performed more than 1200 International pain procedures for chronic and cancer pains and is the only District hospital in Northern India with this facility.
