Militant’s body recovered

SRINAGAR, Nov 10: A fierce gun battle broke out in Bandipora forests of North Kashmir this morning while body of a foreign militant was recovered from Kupwara forests this evening.
Army and Police today recovered dead body of a militant from Tumnar forests of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district this evening. The body of militant who had died of bullet injury was found in the forests. An AK-47 rifle and ammunition was also recovered from near the dead body. The militant is believed to have been injured during gun battle recently.
Meanwhile, fierce gun battle today broke out between Army and militants at Pathra Bahak in Bandipora forests. The militants, however, took advantage of the dense fog and forests and fled from the cordon. The search operation in the area has been intensified and more troops have been rushed to the area.
The operation in Bandipora forests was launched last month against a group of Lashkhar-e-Toiba militants who were hiding in the forests.
The operation was launched by troops of 14, 27 and 13 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 7 para-commandos, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police on October 27.
So far one Army personnel Rifleman Samod, of 14 RR was killed in the operation during an encounter on October 28.
The Army’s 14, 22, 27, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 7 para-commandos, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police took part in the operation so far but there has been no success in eliminating the militants hiding in the forests.
Reports said that there were some 17 militants in Bandipora forests but Abu Qasim, the LeT top commander who was killed last month had managed to shift a group of 9 militants out of the group to South Kashmir and 8 of them are still hiding in the forests.
In the meantime, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) today foiled a weapon snatching bid by a man who attacked one of the Railway police man with a knife.
Police said that a man, Tariq Ahmad Bhat, 22, attacked a Railway policeman in Anantnag, with a knife, but he was over powered by his colleagues. The injured cop, Tinku Khushwaha, from the 3rd Battalion of RPF was admitted to Anantnag hospital in injured condition.
Tariq attacked the RPF personnel with a knife on his head and snatched his Insas Rifle but Tinku’s colleagues overpowered him and recovered the weapon and arrested him.
