Gambling den busted, 7 arrested with Rs 5.29 lakh stake money

JAMMU, Nov 10: Keeping hawks eye over the people indulging in malpractices on the auspicious occasion of Diwali festival falling tomorrow, Satwari police busted a gambling den by arresting seven persons along with Rs 5.29 lakh stake money and playing cards from CDA Complex, Narwal Pian. A pistol, magazine and 3 live cartridges were also recovered from the den.
As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Satwari police station conducted raid in CDA Complex, Narwal Pian and arrested seven persons including a person involved in murder case registered against him at RS Pura police station.
During raid, police recovered Rs 5.29 lakh stake money, 11 mobile phones including 3 I-Phones and playing cards from the den. A pistol, magazine and live cartridges were also recovered from the spot.
The accused have been identified as Ashok Kumar Sharma alias Acchi, son of Shiv Ram Sharma of RS Pura, Khurshid Ahmed alias Munna, son of Ghulam Rasool Sofi of Mohallah Dalpatia, Anil Singh alias Kallu, son of Simar Singh of Birpur District Samba, Harpreet Singh, son of lnderjit Singh of Channi Himmat, Amit Gupta, son of Chander Parkash Gupta of Rehari Colony, Shakti Singh, son of Ajit Singh Bhau of Nai Basti and Rajan alias Raju of Bakshi Nagar.
Ashok Kumar Sharma is presently on bail granted by Court in a murder case registered against him with RS Pura police station and Khurshid Ahmed alias Munna is a habitual gambler as he was also arrested by a police team of City police station while gambling in the area falling under its jurisdiction. The pistol, magazine and 3 live cartridges, which were recovered from the den, were in the possession of Amit Gupta.
A case under Section 13 Gambling Act has been registered against all the seven accused at Satwari police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Satwari police station Inspector Manjeet Singh made the arrest under the supervision of Sachin Gupta, SDPO City South, Shazaad Salaria, SP City South and Uttam Chand, SSP Jammu.
