JAMMU, Oct 7: MESH-IIT Jammu hosted an outreach event for the XR Startup Program run by Meta and MeitY Startup Hub (MSH), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, implemented by FITT-IIT Delhi.
The XR Startup Program aims to accelerate India’s contribution towards building the foundations of the metaverse and nurturing the development of Extended Reality (XR) technologies in India. This program includes a Grand Challenge, which is aimed at supporting early-stage innovators to upscale from the R&D phase to developing workable prototypes and Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) for the Healthcare sector.
A total of 20 innovators will be chosen who will receive Rs 50,000 grant as well as the opportunity to attend the bootcamp. Of the 20 shortlisted innovators, four innovators will be supported with grants worth Rs 20,00,000 to help them develop MVP(s)/prototypes. Last date for application for the same is 13th October.
As part of its outreach event, MESH-IIT Jammu hosted students, professors, startup entrepreneurs, and doctors from various colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, namely AIIMS Jammu, MIET Jammu, SMVDU Katra, and GDC Sidhra.
Prof Kannan Iyer (Dean Faculty Affairs & Senior Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department – IIT Jammu) inaugurated the event, followed by an introduction to the program by FITT-IIT Delhi representatives. This event also included a panel discussion mainly focused on the future of XR technology in healthcare, data and the gaming sector. The panel included Dr Meeta Gupta (Professor, Obstetrics & Gynaecology – AIIMS Jammu), Dr Vinit Jakhetiya (HoD, Computer Science & Engineering – IIT Jammu), Dr Saurav Kushmanda (HoD, Electrical Engineering – IIT Jammu), Dr Yamuna Prasad (Associate Professor, Computer Science & Engineering – IIT Jammu), Harshdev Singh (Co-Founder & CEO – RigelNext Games), Kuldeep (Founder – Data Sailors), Manoj Aggarwal (Prof In Charge, I3C – IIT Jammu) & Manveen Chadha (Senior Manager, FITT – IIT Delhi).
It concluded with a networking session. The event was successfully organised by Lakshya Devani & Premveer Singh (Convenors of MESH-IIT Jammu) and Dewansh Poddar (Project lead at FITT-IIT Delhi). Students were also given an invitation to continue this discussion over a visit to AIIMS Jammu.
