MC Chairman Langate penalized for violating rules

Srinagar, Nov 6: The Department of Geology and Mining has asked the chairman of the Municipal Committee Langate, Shahnawaz Abdullah, to deposit Rs 1.05 lakhs for allowing the extraction and transportation of minerals from the premises of the Government Middle School Langate in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, in violation of the Mines Minerals Development and Regulation Act 1957.
The decision was made after news of the illegal extraction of soil from the school premises went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Chief Education Officer Kupwara has also taken cognizance of the matter and ordered an inquiry into it.
In this context, the committee comprising of the Deputy Chief Education Officer (Hq Handwara) and Principal BHSS Langate has been constituted to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the issue.”
The committee has been directed to visit the spot and take the necessary and appropriate action, besides furnishing a detailed report to this office within two business days.
