SAMBA, Aug 2: Former Minister and district Congress Committee, president, Manjit Singh demanded concrete bandh on Basantar and Devak river.
Manjit Singh visited the Rangoor village along the river and listened to the grievances of villagers there. The farmers apprised him about the problems being faced by them in absence of bund along the river.
“The concrete bund was damaged in 2013 during a flash flood in the river and destroyed the crops in the village,” they informed villagers to Manjit Singh.
After listening to them, the Congress leader said that it is very unfortunate that Flood Control and Irrigation Department have done nothing to safety of farmer’s land from erosion.
“The officials of Flood Control Department erect a temporary wall with crates along the river to stop river water from entering into the fields, but it is not sufficient. The temporary bandh got washed away every times,” said senior Congress leader.
He appealed the administration to permanently solve the concern of the villagers. Those who were present Sarpanch Kali Dass, Ex. Sarpanch Natha Ram, Ex. Capt (retd) Joginder Singh, Ashok Choudhary and others.
