JAMMU, Oct 3: Condemning BJP for misleading Jats, president, J&K Jat Sabha and former minister, Manjit Singh today said that the assembly constituencies which were dominated by Jat community for SCs in Jammu depriving the Jats of their political rights.
In a statement to the press issued here today, Manjit Singh said that the Jats were expecting reservation of assembly constituencies from the Delimitation Commission but BJP played its role by depriving the Jat community from its constitutional right and reserving assembly constituencies for the SCs even as Marh, Ramgarh, Bishnah, Suchetgarh, Kathua and other constituencies were dominated by the Jat community.
This was the first betrayal of BJP with the Jat community which has supported the BJP in all the elections thinking that they would fulfil their political aspirations by reserving Jat community constituencies in their favour, he added.
Singh further said that the Jats work as labourers and they do not have other means of earning. “The Jats do not have political representations. Accordingly, J&K Jat Sabha wanted to highlight the concern of the Jat community before the Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit, but they were not given time,” he said.
He said that the BJP has deliberately ignored the genuine demands of the Jat community and did not grant them OBC status.
“Jats are the most affected people of J&K who were displaced three times in the last seventy years i.e., in 1947, 1965 and 1971. They deserved reservation of constituencies but faced political conspiracy and its master mind is BJP,” he added.
He also demanded OBC status for the Jat community which has been deprived of all the rights which should be given to them as per the constitution. He also demanded release of a pending financial package in favour of the DPs. “The DPs were promised Rs 25 lakhs but the amount was not released in their favour. Whereas, Rs 5.5 lakhs was not given to all the families. Many deserving families were left without financial compensation,” he added.
“Jats also have an important role as their development, economic, educational and political issues need to be addressed in a time bound manner,” he added.
