SAMBA, July 12: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Unit Jammu arrested a man and recovered large quantity of cannabis from his possession.
According to Virendra Kumar Yadav, Zonal Director, NCB said that on specific information, the sleuths of NCB Zonal Unit Jammu laid a naka at Mansar Morh here and intercepted a truck.
During checking, the NCB sleuths recovered 7.048 kilograms of cannabis from the possession of a man and arrested him, Yadav said, adding that the arrested person has been identified As Tariq Ahmed Ganai, a resident of District Kulgam, Kashmir.
He informed that this was the seventh seizure of cannabis during this year.
“The arrested person has been produced in the District Court Samba and further lodged in the Sub-Jail Hiranagar for judicial custody”, he said, adding that it has been revealed by the arrested person that the origin of the drug was Kashmir and was destined to Delhi.
As per the inputs being received and as revealed from the interrogation of the arrestee that charas and other contraband are being trafficked to other parts of the country from Kashmir Valley and all the means of transport like light vehicle, taxis (Tempo Travellers), trains and through trucks from Srinagar to other parts of the country as well as for local consumption in Jammu and adjoining area, Yadav stated.
He said that NCB Zonal Unit Jammu and other enforcement agencies have launched their drives actively against the drug traffickers in the area during the year 2017 and affected a lot of seizures of narcotics, adding that the same efforts are being continued during the current year 2018 resulting which 7 seizures were affected by the unit till date.
