JAMMU, Aug 10: Former Member Parliament and senior Congress leader Madan Lal Sharma has strongly criticized the BJP Government at the Centre for giving the gift of toll plazas and imposition of various taxes and increased fees on the people in return of huge mandate by the people of Jammu region besides other anti people and anti youth policies.
Reacting to the installation of toll plazas in Jammu region, one after another , in the recent past, when the ruling party vehemently opposed the same while in opposition, the senior Congress leader lashed out the double standard of the party in politics.
He said that the Jammu region has become the region of toll plazas during BJP regime while most of these roads were sanctioned and initiated and many nearing completion during Congress rule headed by Dr Manmohan Singh. The Congress always kept J and K in the special category state with ninety percent aid, as such people were exempted from the purview of taxes as compared to others parts.
Sharma said that Jammu to Akhnoor road project was also sanctioned during UPA rule but could not be completed during more than six years of BJP rule and has yet to take long time to be completed but the toll plaza near Akhnoor is being installed . This is most unfortunate and anti people.
He also questioned the unreasonable hike in various taxes and fees for various categories in the BJP rule and Governor Rules fleecing the people besides various moves of privatization of power, PSUs, which are anti poor, anti- employees and anti youth decisions.
He referred to the one time charge of 9 % Road Tax, unreasonable increase of circle rates of lands in most localities, more than market rates in those areas and increase of several hundred times in the registration free last week, which amounts to looting the common people.
Ex-MP said youth of Jammu are very frustrated due to the anti- youth approach and decisions of the present dispensation. The unemployment is at its peak and the already working youth on daily wager basis, casual, need based and temporary arrangements in all departments are denied their due wages and deprived of benefits of regularisation despite repeated assurances and promises by the BJP top leaders.
