Loss of a Freedom fighter

The death of Captain Lakshmi Sahgal is a great loss to India. In her death, India has not only lost a great freedom fighter but also a medical practitioner.
Under the leadership of Subash Chandra Bose, she was instrumental in setting up a women’s regiment called the Rani of Jhansi regiment. She became a symbol of courage and patriotism for a her women followers. As a social worker, she worked for the cause of poor and downtrodden sections of society. She also worked for the empowerment of women in India.
Being a medical practitioner, she was known by the name of Dr Lakshmi Swaminadhan, but after joining the Rani of Jhansi Regiment, she became captain Lakshmi, a name and identity that would stay with her for life.
She will be remembered among the great freedom fighters of the country.
