JAMMU, Dec 10: Acting swiftly on the complaint of a consumer activist regarding sale of local made garments by putting branded labels by a leading garment store at Gandhi Nagar, a team of officers of Legal Metrology conducted extensive inspection and booked the trader under different provisions of law enforced for the purpose.
According to Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller Consumer Protection, a consumer activist complaint that he purchased few garments from the said dealer and later on became suspicious about the genuineness of the quality and again approached to said dealer for returning the same. Inspite of repeated request the said dealer refused to return the goods on the grounds that in bill it is mentioned that goods once sold will not be returned. The said trader resorted to adopt the means of restrictive trade practice by stressing the customer to purchase other goods from him.
On receiving the complaint, the officers of the Legal Metrology Department conducted inspection of the shop and found large number of non branded garments tagged with brands like ADIDAS, GUCCI and other brands of high repute. The said items were also not carrying the mandatory declaration like MRP, Address of the manufacturer, consumer helpline numbers etc.
The dealer could not produce bills for the said purchases and even could not justify the lapses on his part. All the deceptive garments were seized and trader was accordingly booked under the relevant provisions of law with the direction to produce bills.
