JAMMU, Dec 14: Former Minister and chairman Dogra Swabhimaan Sangthan Party (DSSP) has demanded a special financial package for farmers.
Addressing a meeting of party workers here today, Lal Singh lamented on the pathetic conditions of the farmers of Jammu whose crops have been totally perished by the incessant rains. “The farmers of the Jammu region are in crisis as they have badly suffered both at the hands of the nature and the administration which is the mute spectator and have not bothered about the issues confronted by this hapless community, the DSSP chairman said.
The former Minister said that the paddy crop of the farmers, which was lying in the procurement centres of the Government for want of packaging materials, also perished due to heavy rainfall and the procurement agencies are not taking responsibility of the said crop, which is adding to the woes of the farmers.
“The incessant rains have further turned them totally in dark as there is hardly any scope left for wheat crop also,” Lal Singh said and demanded a special package for the farmers of Jammu on the same analogy as has been done for the apple growers of Kashmir.
Lal Singh also expressed his solidarity with the Bar Association and said that the Government has not done justice with them which is not a healthy sign of a democratic state. He also appealed to the Cheif Justice of High Court to reconsider the contempt proceedings against the striking lawyers.
Prominent among others who participated in the meeting were Dr Hari Dutt Shishu (general secretary of the DSSP) Kamal Saini (Retd IGP), Prof H R Sharma, Advocate BS Jamwal, Advocate Vikrant, Suman Wazir, Anoop Biloria, Jatinder, Col J P Singh, Captain Azam Khan, Dhian Singh, Balbir Singh Azad and Corporator Ashok Sharma.
