JAMMU, May 3: Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings, Ch Lal Singh today inaugurated a blood donation camp on the concluding day of 3-day Heritage-Cum-Health Mela at Basohli.
The 3-day Heritage-Cum-Health Mela was organised by District Administration Kathua in collaboration with Health and Medical Education Department at Basohli town.
During the Mela, about 15000 locals including children were examined and provided free medical treatment and medicines.
Ex-MLA Kanta Andotra, Director Health Services Dr. B S Pathania, Mission Director NHM Dr Yash Pal Sharma, Director Family Welfare Dr. Baldev Sharma, Project Director AIDS Control Society Dr. Mohan Singh, Sub-District Magistrate Gurmukh Singh besides other senior officers of PHE, Health, Education, PDD, R&B. Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Department of Information and Public Relations and Agriculture were present on the occasion.
The Minister, Mission Director NHM, Project Director AIDS Control Society, Sub-District Magistrate and 150 locals of Basohli town participated in the blood donation camp.
Addressing the large gathering on the occasion, Ch Lal Singh emphasized the value of voluntary blood donation. He appealed to all to come forward and donate blood.
Enumerating some of the major reforms taken by the Government for providing quality healthcare facilities to the people of the State, Ch Lal Singh said that Health and Medical Education sectors are the priority sectors of the Government, adding that under the sectors Central and State Governments have provided liberal funding under NHM and other programmes. He said to fill up the vacant posts of doctors in the hospitals selection process of doctors through PSC is at final stage. He said Government is going to launch new scheme ‘RBSK’ in the State for providing free treatment to the children. He further said that new sub-health centers in far-off areas of the State would also be established, for the purpose the Centre has already given its nod to the State Government, he added.
The Minister on the occasion also felicitated volunteer blood donors and urged that volunteers and social organizations to step up their efforts to motivate more and more people, particularly the students to donate blood generously for the human cause so that adequate quantity of blood is kept available in all the hospitals to save many precious lives.
The Minister advocated curbing the menace of female feticide, saying that situation is so alarming and society must cooperate in dealing with this serious issue. “Only Government efforts are not adequate to tackle this social issue, but entire society is responsible for the situation and all right thinking people including social/religious organizations have to put their efforts to keep a check on this menace,” he asserted.
Lauding unprecedented support of the Central Government, Ch Lal Singh said that with the help of liberal funding and active backing major development initiatives have been taken and the State Government has launched major projects for all round development of all the three regions of the state. He said Government is fully aware of the needs of those living in rural and remote areas of Basholi town and every efforts is made to redress the problems of the people.
The Minister said that such type of health melas will be organized in other parts of the State.
Later, the Minister also inaugurated eye check up camp organised by Shri Durga Dass Trust in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services and Banjal Dehri Langar Committee Basohli where the team of doctors operated 38 patients and provided free treatment.
