LAHDC deploys new ambulances to boost emergency healthcare in remote areas

KARGIL, May 14 : Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today formally handed over newly procured Ecco Ambulances at Qambar Ali Akhoon Memorial (QAAM) Hospital, Kargil for deployment in various health institutions and far-flung areas of the district.

The fully equipped Basic life support ambulances have been procured under the District Capex Budget 2025-26 with the objective of strengthening emergency healthcare services and ensuring timely transportation facilities for patients, particularly in remote and underserved regions of Kargil district.

Speaking on the occasion, the CEC stated that the Council is committed to improving healthcare infrastructure and providing better medical facilities to the people of the district.

He emphasized that the availability of ambulances in peripheral health institutions will significantly enhance emergency response services and facilitate timely referrals of patients to higher medical centers.

Dr Akhoon further said that healthcare remains one of the top priorities of LAHDC Kargil and assured that all possible efforts are being made to upgrade medical facilities, manpower, and essential services across the district.

Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Aga Syed Mujtaba Mussavi also highlighted the importance of strengthening rural healthcare facilities and said that the newly provided ambulances will greatly benefit patients residing in remote villages where transportation during medical emergencies often remains a major challenge.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shabbir Hussain; Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Dr. Mohd Abass; Incharge Medical Superintendent QAAM Hospital, Dr. Sajjad Hussain; Councillor Poyen, Mohd Amin; Councillor Parkachik, Ain-ul-Huda; senior doctors, concerned Block Medical Officers (BMOs), and officials from the Health Department were present during the handover ceremony.

The newly procured ambulances were distributed among various health institutions including NTPHC Bhimbat (Drass), NTPHC Bagdam, NTPHC Akchamal, NTPHC Choskore, NTPHC Parkachik, NTPHC Trespone, NTPHC Tikat ( Sankoo) , NTPHC Karsha Zanskar, AAM Rangdum to strengthen emergency healthcare services in remote areas of the district.
