SRINAGAR, June 7: In a bid to boost border tourism in North Kashmir, the District Administration Kupwara today launched the ‘Shumali Kashmir’ tourism portal and a North Kashmir tourism magazine.
Officials said the initiatives aim to showcase the frontier destinations and attract more tourists by highlighting its scenic landscapes, cultural heritage and adventure tourism potential.
The platforms were unveiled during a tourism promotion event organised by the district administration in collaboration with the Indian Army at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Kupwara.
Developed and curated by the Indian Army, the tourism portal and magazine are designed to provide travellers with information on destinations across North Kashmir, including Keran, Machhal, Karnah, Tangdhar, Lolab, Gurez and Kupwara.
Officials said the platforms would improve the visibility of lesser-known tourist destinations and support efforts to expand tourism in border areas.
The newly launched portal offers a single platform for visitors to explore tourist attractions, cultural experiences, adventure activities and travel-related information about North Kashmir’s frontier regions, officials said.
The event brought together officials from various departments, tourism stakeholders, hoteliers, travel operators, homestay owners, transport associations and local entrepreneurs to discuss strategies for strengthening the region’s tourism sector.
Participants deliberated on improving tourism infrastructure, enhancing visitor experiences and creating livelihood opportunities for local communities through sustainable tourism practices.
A key attraction at the event was an exhibition of locally developed products and enterprises supported through various initiatives.
Entrepreneurs representing various ventures, along with artisans and producers from Tulail and Karnah, displayed their products.
Officials said the tourism initiatives are expected to help position North Kashmir as a prominent destination on India’s tourism map.
