KARGIL, June 7: In a significant effort to promote traditional sports and preserve the cultural heritage of Ladakh, the Army successfully organised the five-day Zanskar Valley Archery Competition at Padum in Zanskar district. The event brought together archery enthusiasts from across the region and highlighted the deep-rooted connection of the people of Ladakh with the traditional sport.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 20 teams comprising nearly 400 archers representing different parts of the Zanskar Valley. The tournament created an atmosphere of excitement and healthy competition while strengthening bonds among participants and local communities.
Archery, an integral part of the cultural fabric of Ladakh and Zanskar, attracted large crowds of local residents, sports lovers and visitors who gathered to cheer for their respective teams. The event served as an important platform for preserving traditional customs, encouraging youth participation in indigenous sports and promoting cultural awareness among younger generations.
Throughout the competition, participants displayed impressive skill, precision and sportsmanship. The tournament also fostered interaction among communities from various regions of Ladakh, encouraging cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
