FIR lodged after lawyers beat cop: SSP

KATHUA, Aug 31: District Bar Association (DBA) Kathua suspended the work in the District & Sessions Court Kathua including all other subordinate courts in protest against what they called the false & frivolous FIR lodged by district police Samba against the members and office bearers of the Bar Association Samba.
The Executive Committee of the Bar led by Adv. Ajat Shatru Sharma, president District Bar Association, Kathua by expressing solidarity with the District Bar Association Samba and strongly condemned the action of district police Samba.
In his statement Sharma, said that by lodging FIR on legal professionals Samba police showed their high headedness and a bizarre attempt to demoralize the legal fraternity which also amounts to the interference in the judicial work as advocates are known as officers of the courts. Such action of district police Samba is highly condemnable and which will not be tolerated by the legal fraternity of the entire J&K.
He also appealed to Chief Justice of J&K High Court to intervene in the matter and stern action be taken against the police officials involved in creating a scene in the Samba Court premises and FIR be withdrawn with immediate effect otherwise district police Samba has to face the anger of entire legal fraternity not only the UT of J&K but across the Country.
The members of District Bar Association Kathua unanimously resolved that they will extend their full support to District Bar Association Samba over the said issue and shall follow the further course of action till the issue be completely resolved and withdrawal of FIR.
However, when contacted the SSP, Samba Shakti Pathak said a police constable was beaten up ruthlessly by lawyers in the Samba Court premises and therefore FIR has been registered against those who were responsible for attack on the cop.
