JAMMU, Nov 16: Narcotics Control Bureau, Zonal Unit Jammu busted Kashmir-Nasik drugs trafficking racket with the arrested of two persons along with 35.180 kilograms of cannabis.
This was stated by Zonal Director of NCB Zonal Unit Jammu, while interacting with media persons here today.
He informed that on specific information, the sleuths of NCB Zonal Unit Jammu laid a naka at Parmandal Morh and intercepted a Honda City car bearing registration number CH01AC-3568.
During checking, NCB sleuths recovered 35.180 kilograms cannabis from the vehicle and arrested two persons, who have been identified as Sameer Khan, son of Aijaz Ahmed Khan and Faizan Rafiq, son of Mohammad Rafiq Haken, both residents of district Anantnag, Kashmir.
“Out of the total packets, 15 packets marked as Zakir Traders were wrapped with brown cello tape, while the 15 packets marked as MD were wrapped with brown cello tape and the remaining 6 packets of cannabis were wrapped with white, red and yellow cello tapes”, he stated.
The arrested persons were produced in the Court and further lodged in the District Jail Jammu for judicial custody, he said, adding that it has been revealed by the arrested persons that the origin of the drug was Kashmir and was destined to Nasik, Maharashtra.
He further disclosed that this was the second seizure of cannabis continuously in the month of October and November this year and 8th seizure affected from January this year to till date. A total quantity of 115.872 kilograms of cannabis has been seized and 17 persons have been arrested, he stated.
“Besides this two seizures of banned syrup and intoxicant capsules having quantity of 856 bottles and 4704 capsules have been affected by this unit in the month of March this year from Toll Plaza, Lakhanpur and one seizure of 200 kilograms poppy straw from Narwal area in July this year”, Zonal Director of NCB Jammu added.
In all the cannabis cases the drug was destined to Nasik, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Ajmer or Delhi which shows the linkage between the inter-state drug traffickers, he said, adding that all out efforts are being taken by the unit to unearth the nexus of inter-state drug traffickers.
He disclosed that as per the inputs being received and as revealed from the interrogation of the arrestees, a huge quantity of cannabis and other contraband are being trafficked to other parts of the country from Kashmir by means of light vehicle, taxis, trains and trucks. Recently in one case the contraband being trafficked by air from Srinagar to Ahmedabad has been seized by NCB Ahmedabad on the intelligence generated by the Jammu Zonal Unit, he informed.
Narcotics Control Bureau, Zonal Unit Jammu and other enforcement agencies are launching their drives actively against the drug traffickers in the area, resulting which a lot of drugs have been affected and a number of traffickers have been arrested during this year, Zonal Director of NCB Jammu maintained.
