Kashmir Expo-2015

The 6th International Buyer-Seller Meet just concluded in Srinagar has been more than a success.  Delegates from no fewer than 21 countries participated in the meet. They came from United States, UK, Egypt, Palestine, Tunisia, France, Turkey, Germany and Indonesia.
It is an excellent idea to arrange International Buyers-Sellers Meet in which the buyers have an opportunity of seeing the samples themselves and interacting with the suppliers. This gives fillip to Kashmir handicrafts because some of the buyers suggest some modifications on spot in order to increase marketability of Kashmir handicrafts. The role of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries has been laudable in facilitating good marketing of Kashmir products. It is learnt that in two days orders worth 700,000 US dollars have been recorded. This should explain the popularity of Kashmir products in foreign markets.
Handicrafts and tourism are two major sectors that contribute largely to the economy of the State. As such, all attention must focus on these two sectors in the first place. The Chief Minister has said that his government is prepared to provide all facilities to the buyers to eliminate any inconvenience and to promote the trading opportunities. It is interesting that the delegation from Indonesia desired that such Buyer-Seller meet and exhibition should he held in Indonesia to popularise Kashmir handicrafts in their country. Ahmad Tawakal, from Egypt, described the Buyer-Seller Meet as a wonderful experience and hoped that it will create greater awareness about Kashmir Arts internationally.
As these meets should be held annually, the suggestions made by the buyers be taken into consideration. It is also important that these meets will help develop person to person or organization to organization contacts and that should be encouraged and promoted. Tourism is closely linked with such exhibitions.
