KARGIL, Nov 17: Rejecting Union Territory status, Kargil Democratic Alliance today reiterated its demand for restoration of Articles 370 and Statehood for Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.
“People of Kargil reject the division of Jammu Kashmir State on basis of region, religion or geography etc and demand restoration of erstwhile J&K State with its special status,” said Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai, former Chief Executive Councilor of Kargil Hill Development Council, Ladakh, while addressing a joint press conference with former minister Qamar Ali Akhoon and other leaders of the Alliance, here today.
He claimed that special status of Jammu and Kashmir because of Article 370 and 35-A had immensely benefitted the erstwhile State and its people, including Kargil, who don’t want Union Territory.
“Kargil was the only district which had opposed Jammu Kashmir Re-organization bill immediately after it was passed in the Parliament. Co-ordination Committee of various political, social and religious organization was formed to oppose the re-organization and this opposition is still going on,” said Karbalai and vowed to continue the struggle for restoration of Statehood with Article 370.
Representatives of various constituents of Kargil Democratic Alliance- a body of political, social and religious organizations of the Kargil district, were present in the press conference.
