LEH, Nov 6: Executive Chairman of Ladakh Legal Services Authority (LLSA) and Judge of High Court Justice Ali Mohd Magrey today started his two day visit to Leh district.
During his visit, Justice Magrey inaugurated office of Ladakh Legal Services Authority and interacted with Bar members. Many officers of the administration along with several NGOs, lawyers, para-legal volunteers attended the inaugural function.
He also inaugurated the Retainer/ Panel Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) meet and training program which was jointly organized by Ladakh Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authorities of Ladakh at District Court Complex Leh.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Magrey said, “endeavor of Ladakh Legal Services Authority is to safeguard the rights of the marginalized and downtrodden sections of society”. He advised Panel/Retainer lawyers and PLVs to work in coordinated manner to streamline the justice delivery system at grass root level.
He also highlighted the objective behind the enactment of Legal Services Authority Act 1997 and said that PLVs play an important role in the society for creating legal awareness in respect of constitutional rights being a link between the legal services institutions and general masses. “Legal Service Authority provide free and competent legal services to the weaker section of the society to ensure that opportunity for securing justice is not deprived to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities”, he said and directed to organize Lok Adalats to secure the operation of the legal system, promote justice on the basis of equal opportunity.
Advocate Mohd Shafi Lassu, President Bar Association Leh highlighted the concerns regarding the difficulties faced by the advocates and Justice Magrey asked the advocates of the Bar to work hard and compete with the best of the lawyers of the country to achieve the epitome of profession with aim to appear before the highest court of the J&K and Ladakh as well as before the Supreme Court.
