JU students gherao VC, chase him to force leaving campus

JAMMU, Apr 2:  The agitating Jammu University students, who are seeking  removal of Dean Students Welfare and fulfillment of their other demands, today gheraoed the Vice-Chancellor and virtually chased him  forcing the later to leave the campus in a huff.
The high-voltage drama took place near General Zorawar Singh Auditorium where the JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma along with SKUAST-Jammu Vice-Chancellor Prof Pardeep Kumar Sharma were attending a function in connection with Youth Parliament competition. Click here to watch video
The protesting students forced their entry into the auditorium and disrupted the function forcing the VC to come out of the hall. However, the students did not stop and started chasing the VC amidst raising of slogans in support of their demands.
To avoid the students, Prof R D Sharma slipped into the official vehicle of SKUAST Jammu Vice-Chancellor but protesters did not allow the car to move. The situation forced Prof Sharma to come out of the car and move towards the camp gate near auditorium.
Even as a number of Policemen as well as JU Security officials were guarding the Vice-Chancellor, the protesting students virtually chased him upto the campus gate.
The protesting students, who  are agitating for the last few days in support of their demands like round the clock food and wi-fi  facilities  at hostel, installation of CCTV cameras, are also demanding removal of Prof Satnam Kour as Dean Students  Welfare and revocation of suspension of five students,
As reported earlier, the JU administration had ordered suspension of five students for alleged ransacking of DSW office two week ago. The students, against whom action was  initiated, included  Abhinandan Sharma of Law Department, Rishikesh Bhardwaj of Buddhist Studies Department, Sunny Parihar of  DLL,  Satvinder Singh of Law Department and  Nishant Gupta of Buddhist Studies.
The protesting students had served an ultimatum to the university administration and warned to intensify the agitation if their demands are not conceded by April 2.
