SRINAGAR, Jan 6: Valley journalists today organized a protest wherein they demanded restoration of internet services immediately in the absence of which they said their work has taken a hit.
Before the protest, the Kashmir Press Club had also organized a seminar wherein the journalists as well as the editors of the various newspapers narrated their ordeal of how they are surviving the internet gag which has now crossed the mark of 150 days.
The Club had organized the seminar in order to press for the restoration of the internet services in the Valley.
“The internet shutdown has completed 5 months now, and this is to remind the Government the Kashmir media is suffering in the total absence of internet services; we have been the worst victims of the internet shutdown since August,” said Muazzam Muhammad, a journalist, adding that how the media fraternity survived in the absence of internet is quite a different thing.
The scribes said that despite continuously pressing for the internet services to be resumed, the government is not budging. “This indicates that the Government does not want the journalists to work effectively here,” they said.
“Internet is the backbone of the journalism and these days I am telling you that the journalism has taken a back seat,” said Majid Hyderi, another journalist.
The journalists said that if the Government did not budge to their repeated demands of restoring the internet, they will be forced to suspend the publications in order to press more for the demand which they said is just.
