JAMMU, May 26: Minister for Urban Development Department and Urban Local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora today inspected the site proposed for developing a Housing Colony at Birpur.
The Minister was accompanied by Vice Chairperson JDA, Sushma Chauhan, Commissioner JMC, Kuldeep Khajuria alongwith other senior officers of JDA and JMC.
The Vice Chairman JDA briefed the Minister that under phase-I Birpur Colony has been proposed to be raised on 587 kanal of land. It will have 788 plots for all sections of society i.e Higher Income Group, Middle Income Group and Lower Income Group besides Economical Weaker Sections, alongwith all required modern infrastructural facilities. It will also have a site of 37 kanal for flatted development besides an area of 46 kanal has been proposed for commercial complex alongwith sectoral shopping complex. She added that approximately 1000 kanal of land will be taken for further development of the colony under phase II.
The Minister asked JDA to explore the possibility of developing sewerage treatment plant for the colony. He exhorted the authorities to make sure that such colonies are developed in a pure logical and practical manner keeping in view the comfort and convenience of the people. He said that these should be as per needs and requirements of the people.
Earlier, the Minister convened an officers meeting in the summer secretariat to take stock of basic services like water, ration and power supply besides assessing the JDA projects like housing colonies, development of parks, construction of vegetable market, construction of flats in Gandhi Nagar and computerization of records etc.
