JMC employees hold protest, highlight demands

JAMMU, June 6: Civic Safai Karamcharis Union (CSKU), Drivers and Cleaners Union (DCU), Sanitary Supervisor’s Union (SSU) of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today held a protest at Town Hall, Jammu to press the Government to highlight their burning demands.
A large number of employees participated in the protest, which was led jointly by Rinku Gill, CSKU president, Gulzar Massih, DCU president and Shahzadi Gill, SSU president. A large number of clerical employees also participated in the protest.
Addressing the protesting employees, Rinku Gill said Safai Karamcharis, drivers and cleaners, Sanitary Supervisors and clerical staff are backbone of JMC but unfortunately they have been deprived of their rights despite repeated appeals, representations and reminders.
He reiterated the demands of the Union like re-organization of JMC, regularization of 33 contractual drivers who have been serving in JMC for continuous 13 years, regularization of 200 Safai Karamcharis, Computer Operators and Technical Assistants/Surveyors working in the Corporation, filling vacant post of Safai Karamcharis, conducting DPC of all cadre employees, scrapping of outsourcing of wards, NGO system and appointment of daily wager Safai Karamcharis, sanctioning of new Municipal Colony for Safai Karamcharis, etc.
Gulzar Massih demanded sanctioning of leave to daily wager employees and curb on hiring vehicles from outside. Stating that Safai Karamcharis are not given weekly holiday and put on duty even on gazetted holidays and Sundays, he demanded sanctioning of these holidays to Safai Karamcharis.
