JAMMU, Jan 27: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has lauded Jammu and Kashmir Police saying it has been spearheading India’s fight against terrorism and hailed martyr Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police who made supreme sacrifice in the operation in which three terrorists were neutralized.
Shah’s strong appreciation for Jammu and Kashmir Police came on the occasion of Republic Day yesterday during which 115 officers/officials of Jammu and Kashmir Police were decorated with President’s Police, Gallantry and Distinguished Medals.
ASI Babu Ram, whose name was specially mentioned by the Union Home Minister in his tweets, was awarded ‘Ashok Chakra’ for his courage and bravery in Srinagar gun battle in which three terrorists were eliminated. Babu Ram hails from Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district.
“ASI Babu Ram was a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Police team that launched an Intelligence based operation against a group of terrorists on the outskirts of Srinagar in the Kashmir valley.
“He led from the front and made the supreme sacrifice in the operation in which three terrorists were neutralized,” Shah said in a series of tweets on the Republic Day.
The Home Minister strongly lauded the courage and valour displayed by ASI Babu Ram during the gun battle.
“I bow to Assistant Sub Inspector Babu Ram’s unparalleled valour and sacrifice for which he was awarded the ‘Ashok Chakra. this Republic Day. His name will remain a source of inspiration not only for the security forces but for all Indians,” Shah said in another tweet.
Through another tweet, Shah complimented the Jammu and Kashmir Police for its valour and commitment and said its dedication has been reflected as it got the largest share of 115 gallantry awards announced on the occasion of Republic Day.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police has been in forefront in fighting the Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in the sensitive Union Territory for more than three decades now.
“J&K Police has been the spearhead of India’s fight against terrorism. It is a matter of immense pride to the entire nation, that the @JmuKmrPolice has won the largest share, 115, of the gallantry awards today on Republic Day. This reflects their valour and commitment,” Shah tweeted.
Congratulating the Jammu and Kashmir Police, he said on this momentous achievement, he salutes their bravery.
“PM Shri @narendramodi Ji led Central Government stands committed to recognising and honouring our brave police personnel,” Shah said.
It may be mentioned here that Jammu and Kashmir was awarded 115 President Medals in different categories including Distinguished Services, Meritorious Services and Gallantry on the eve of Republic Day.
The awardees include both officers and officials.
